블룸버그통신에 따르면,15일(현지시간) 미국 버지니아에서 열린 해군 해상전쟁 관련 회의에서 미 의회예산국(CBO) 소속 해군전력 분석가 에릭 랩스는 트럼프급 전함 'USS 디파이언트'의 건조 비용을 이같이 추산했습니다.
그는 아직 결정되지 않은 배수량,승무원 수와 탑재되는 무기 등에 따라 건조 비용은 크게 달라질 수 있다며 최저 건조 비용 예상치를 151억 달러(22조3천억원)로 제시했습니다.
이는 2017년에 인도된 항공모함 'USS 제럴드 R.포드'의 실제 건조 비용 130억 달러(19조2천억원)를 훌쩍 넘어서는 수준입니다.
앞으로 건조될 트럼프급 전함의 크기는 제럴드 R.포드함의 3분의 1 수준이지만,제2차 세계대전 이후 건조된 역대 순양함이나 구축함과 비교하면 2배 이상 클 것으로 예상됩니다.
도널드 트럼프 대통령은 지난해 12월 '트럼프급 전함' 건조 계획을 발표하면서 미국 조선업 부흥과 해군 개편을 위한 '황금함대' 구상의 일부라고 설명했습니다.
하지만 숙련노동자 부족과 공급망 문제 등 미국의 조선산업 기반의 약점 탓에 실제 트럼프급 전함 건조 비용은 추산치보다 더 늘어날 수 있다고 랩스는 설명했습니다.
