성평등가족부는 내년부터 여성 청소년 생리용품 지원사업을 개편해 지원금 지급 방식을‘월할 계산’에서‘연간 전액 지원’으로 전환한다고 26일 밝혔다.성평등가족부는 법정차상위계층이나 한부모가족 등에 속한 9~24세 여성 청소년에게 생리용품 이용권을 지원하고 있다.
연중 언제 신청하더라도 16만8000원을 지원받을 수 있다는 의미다.그간 신청 시점이 늦어 지원금을 온전히 받지 못했던 형평성 문제를 해결하고 여성 청소년의 기본적 건강권 보장의 실효성을 높이겠다는 취지다.
또 생리용품 이용권(바우처)을 신청할 때 국민행복카드 발급을 동시에 신청할 수 있도록 절차를 통합한다.이전처럼 카드사를 따로 방문하거나 별도로 연락해야 했던 번거로움이 사라지면서 지원 제도의 문턱이 낮아질 것으로 기대된다.
정부의 이번 행보는 이재명 대통령이 지적한‘생리대 가격 거품’논란에 대한 정책적 보완 성격도 띠고 있다.이 대통령은 지난 19일 성평등가족부와 공정거래위원회 업무보고에서 “국내 생리대 기업들이 일종의 독점적 지위를 이용해 폭리를 취하는 것 아닌가 하는 생각이 든다”며 공정위에 조사를 지시했다.이에 따라 공정위는 유한킴벌리,LG유니참,깨끗한나라 등 주요 3사를 대상으로 가격 담합 등에 대한 현장 조사에 착수한 상태다.
