18일 현대차그룹은 이보룡 현대제철 생산본부장을 현대제철 신임 대표이사로 승진 임명했다.
현대차그룹에 따르면 이 신임대표는 30년 이상의 풍부한 철강업계 경험을 기반으로 연구개발(R&D) 분야 내 엔지니어링 전문성을 갖췄다.또 철강사업 총괄운영 경험도 풍부하다.
현대차그룹은 "(이 신임대표는) 전략적인 대규모 설비·기술 투자 등을 연속성 있게 추진해 나감으로써 현대제철의 미래 경쟁력을 강화해 나갈 적임자로 평가받고 있다"고 설명했다.
이 신임대표는 1965년생으로 연세대 금속공학과를 졸업하고 현대차그룹의 강관 제조 계열사인 현대하이스코에 입사했다.
그는 현대제철이 2015년 현대하이스코를 합병한 이후 냉연생산실장과 생산기술실장,연구개발본부장 등 제철소 핵심 업무를 맡아왔다.

지난 2023년부터 현대제철 대표이사를 맡아온 서강현 사장은 이번 인사를 통해 현대차그룹 기획조정담당으로 이동하면서 그룹사간 사업 최적화를 주도하게 됐다.
그는 2023년 11월 현대제철 대표이사에 임명된 뒤 2년여 만에 현대차로 복귀한다.
서 사장은 1968년생으로 서울대 국제경제학과를 졸업하고 현대차 회계관리실장과 재경본부장,기획재경본부장 등을 거쳐 현대차그룹 내 대표적 재무전문가로 꼽힌다.
이에 미국 루이지애나 전기로 제철소 건설 등 58억달러 규모의 투자 등과 관련한 주요 계열사 투자·관리 업무에 집중할 것으로 전망된다.
