중일 갈등 속 다음달 2마리 반환…신규 대여협상도 난망

중국과 심각한 외교 갈등을 빚고 있는 일본이 중국에서 대여해 사육하던 판다를 중국에 반환하기로 했다.
아사히 신문은 15일 도쿄도가 자이언트판다 수컷 '샤오샤오'와 암컷 '레이레이'의 내년 2월 20일 반환 기한을 앞두고 중국 측과 교섭을 벌였지만 결국 결렬돼,토토헤로스 & 에꼴리에내년 1월 하순 중국에 반환하기로 했다고 보도했다.
반환이 결정된 판다 두 마리는 2021년 6월 우에노동물원에서 태어나 사육돼 왔으며,아빠 '리리'와 엄마 '싱싱'은 이미 지난해 9월 중국으로 반환됐다.
아사히는 "새로운 판다 대여를 중국 측에 요청해 왔지만 실현 전망이 밝지 않다"며 "신규 대여 없이 두 마리 판다가 반환될 경우,1972년 이후 처음으로 일본에서 판다가 사라지게 된다"고 전했다.
특히 지난달 7일 다카이치 사나에 일본 총리의 '대만 유사시 개입' 시사 발언 이후 중일 간 갈등이 고조된 상황이어서 당분간 신규 대여 협상은 어려울 것이라는 관측이 우세하다.
판다는 양국 간 국교가 정상화한 1972년 처음 일본에 대여된 이후,토토헤로스 & 에꼴리에그동안 30마리 이상이 판다 보호를 위한 공동 연구 대여 등의 형식으로 일본에서 사육됐다.
중국은 전 세계에서 자국에만 서식하는 자이언트판다를 우호 관계를 맺은 국가에 선물하거나 대여하는 방식으로 이른바 '판다 외교'를 펼쳐왔다.
해외에서 태어난 자이언트판다는 성체가 되는 만 4세 전후에 중국으로 반환하도록 하고 있다.
