통일교의 정치권 로비 의혹을 수사하는 경찰이 주말에도 통일교 관계자들을 줄소환하며 수사에 속도를 내고 있다.
경찰청 국가수사본부 특별전담수사팀은 이날 통일교 관계자 2명을 참고인 신분으로 불러 조사했다.
오전부터는 이모 전 통일교 한국회장을 소환해 약 6시간 동안 조사를 벌였다.이 전 회장은 통일교 내에서 주요 직책을 두루 거친 인사로 금품 로비 의혹 시점과 맞닿은 2018년에서 2020년 사이 회장직을 지냈다.한국회장은 통일교의 한국 신도들을 총괄하는 직위로 알려졌다.
경찰은 오후 2시에도 또다른 통일교 관계자 1명을 불러 조사했다.이 관계자는 기존 수사 과정에서 조사를 받은 적 없는 인물로 알려졌다.
경찰은 전날도 사건 관련자들을 줄줄이 조사했다.통일교 산하단체 천주평화연합(UPF) 회장을 지낸 송광석씨를 사흘 만에 다시 불러 피의자 신분으로 조사했다.송씨는 여러 정치인 관리 역할을 맡으며 로비 의혹의 새로운 '키맨'으로 떠오른 인물이다.
또 서울구치소를 찾아 이번 금품 수수 의혹을 촉발한 윤영호 전 세계본부장을 체포해 조사했다.윤 전 본부장이 접견 조사를 거부하자 곧바로 체포영장을 발부 받아 강제 조사에 나선 것이다.경찰은 같은 날 통일교 산하 재단 실무자 등 통일교 관계자 2명도 참고인 신분으로 불러 조사했다.
경찰은 지난 2018년에서 2020년 사이 통일교가 전재수 전 해양수산부 장관과 임종성 전 더불어민주당 의원,김규환 전 바른미래당 의원을 비롯한 정치권에 금품 공여 등을 통해 전방위적인 로비를 벌였다고 의심하고 있다.
경찰이 진상 규명에 속도를 내는 가운데 일각에선 금품 수수 시점에 따라 이르면 이달 말 공소시효가 완성될 수 있다는 분석이 나온다.
