대규모 고객 정보를 유출한 쿠팡이 영업 정지 처분을 당할 가능성이 생겼다.
주병기 공정거래위원장은 지난 19일 오후 KBS '뉴스라인W'에 출연해 쿠팡에 대해 "영업정지 처분을 할 가능성도 열어놓고 있다"고 말했다.
주 위원장은 "분쟁 조정이나 소송 지원 같은 가용 수단을 총동원해서 소비자 피해를 구제하려고 하고 있다"며 소비자의 재산 피해 등이 발생했을 때 쿠팡이 적절한 회복 조치를 하지 않을 경우 영업정지를 명령할 수 있다고 설명했다.
최근 쿠팡은 중국인 퇴사자에 의해 고객 3370명의 개인정보가 유출됐다.최근에는 이와 관련된 보이스피싱·스미싱 등 2차 피해가 확산할 수 있다는 우려가 커지고 있다.
이러한 문제를 논의하고자 국회 과학기술정보방송통신위원회가 지난 17일 '쿠팡 개인정보 유출 사태' 청문회를 열었지만,외국 카지노김범석 쿠팡 창업주이자 쿠팡 모회사 쿠팡 아이엔씨 이사회 의장은 불출석하고 한국어가 서투른 해럴드 로저스 쿠팡 신임 대표만 참석했다.
쿠팡이 책임을 회피하려는 모습을 보인다는 비판이 나오자 주 위원장이 작심발언을 한 것으로 풀이된다.
다만 쿠팡이 영업을 중지할 경우 이용자 불편이 클 수 있다는 문제에 대해서는 "영업정지가 소비자들에게 피해를 입힐 수 있다면 그것에 갈음해서 과징금을 처분할 수 있다"며 영업정지 처분을 내리지 않을 가능성도 함께 제시했다.
주 위원장은 "현재 합동 조사반의 조사가 진행 중"이라며 "개인정보 유출에 대한 책임을 묻는 것이 가장 첫 번째 해야 할 일"이라고 강조했다.
