31일 배터리업계에 따르면 엘앤에프는 지난 29일 테슬라와 맺었던 양극재 공급 계약 규모가 기존 3조8347억원에서 973만원으로 대폭 축소됐다고 공시했다.이는 테슬라가 추진해온 차세대 원통형 배터리 '4680'의 자체 생산 계획을 구조적으로 조정한 데 따른 것이다.
당초 해당 계약은 테슬라가 차세대 원통형 배터리인 4680(지름 46㎜·높이 80) 배터리를 직접 생산하는 과정에서 엘앤에프로부터 하이니켈 양극재를 공급받는 구조였다.그러나 테슬라가 건식전극 공정을 적용한 4680 배터리 개발과 양산 과정에서 기술적 난도와 비용 부담에 직면하면서 직접 셀을 생산하는 전략을 사실상 후퇴시킨 것으로 업계는 보고 있다.
