쿠팡에서 일하다 사망한 고 장덕준씨의 어머니 박미숙씨가 23일 오후 서울 서대문구 경찰청 앞에서 열린 택배노동자과로사대책위원회가 연 쿠팡 김범석 의장 고발 기자회견에 참석해 철저한 수사를 촉구하고 있다.위원회는 김범석 쿠팡아이앤씨 이사회 의장을 산업재해 은폐 혐의 등으로 경찰에 고발했다.김영원 기자 
김범석 쿠팡 아이앤씨 이사회 의장이 2020년 물류센터 노동자 고 장덕준씨의 죽음이 과로사라는 의혹을 덮으려 한 의혹에 대해 서울경찰청이 수사에 나섰다.
서울경찰청 형사기동대(대장 백승언)는 고 장덕준씨 죽음과 관련한 김 의장의 산업재해 은폐 의혹 사건을 배당 받아 수사에 착수했다고 29일 밝혔다.김 의장은 산재 은폐와 증거 인멸 교사 등 혐의를 받는다.
김 의장은 ㈜쿠팡 대표이사 시절인 2020년 10월 대구 칠곡 쿠팡물류센터에서 야간 근무를 하던 고 장덕준(당시 27살)씨가 숨진 뒤 그가 일하는 모습이 찍힌 폐회로티브이(CCTV) 영상에서‘과로사 의혹’을 반박할 증거를 수집하도록 지시한 의혹을 받는다.또 김 의장이 장씨가 “열심히 일한다는 메모가 남지 않도록 확실히 하라”며 산재를 뒷받침할 증거를 감추려 한 정황도 최근 드러났다.
앞서 전국택배노동조합은 지난 23일 김 의장을 상대로 산재 발생 사실을 은폐하고 증거 인멸을 교사(지시)하는 등 산업안전보건법과 형법을 위반한 혐의로 고발했다.택배노조 쪽은 김 의장을 고발하는 기자회견에서 “(김 의장의 행위는)단순한 기업의 위기관리가 아니다.노동자의 죽음을 은폐하고,엘든링 아이템 슬롯사회적 책임을 회피하기 위해 최고 경영책임자가 직접 개입했다면 결코 묵과할 수 없는 중대한 범죄”라고 밝혔다.
