금호미쓰이화학은 지난 2일 주주총회에서 이같은 안건을 최종 승인받았다.
이번 투자 결정은 지난 4월 대규모 20만톤 증설 공장 준공을 통해 국내 최대 규모인 61만톤 체제를 갖춘 지 불과 8개월 만에 이뤄진 것이다.
심화되는 글로벌 MDI 시장에서 '규모의 경제'와 '원가 경쟁력'을 극대화하겠다 게 금호미쓰이화학의 설명이다.
증강 투자를 통해 디보틀네킹(Debottlenecking,생산 공정 효율화를 통한 생산량 증대) 방식의 설비 확충이 진행된다.기존 설비의 병목 구간을 해소하고 공정을 개선해 생산 효율을 극대화하는 방식이다.
금호미쓰이화학은 약 1400억원을 투자해 기존 61만톤 설비를 71만톤 체제로 확충한다.회사 측은 이를 통해 약 2500억원의 매출 증대 효과와 더불어 추가적인 제조원가 절감으로 실질적인 수익성 개선을 기대하고 있다.
향후 일정도 신속하게 추진될 예정이다.회사는 내년 1월까지 공사업체 선정을 마무리하고 2월부터 본 공사에 착수할 예정이다.이후 약 11개월간의 공사 기간을 거쳐 2026년 12월 말부터 증설분에 대한 상업생산을 개시하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.폐수 처리 및 물류 등 제반 인프라 설비는 2027년 상반기 내 순차적으로 완료될 예정이다.
온용현 금호미쓰이화학 사장은 주주총회 직후 "이번 디보틀네킹 투자는 기존 설비를 최대한 활용하여 투자 효율을 극대화하는 전략적 프로젝트"라며 "계획된 일정과 목표 수익성을 달성하여 글로벌 제조사들과 당당히 경쟁할 수 있는 기반을 마련하고,주주사와 임직원의 기대에 부응하는 성과를 창출하겠다"고 밝혔다.
