(워싱턴=연합뉴스) 박성민 특파원 = 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령은 29일(현지시간) 베네수엘라에 대해 1월 재집권 이후의 첫 지상 군사작전을 감행했다고 거듭 밝혔다.
트럼프 대통령은 이날 플로리다주 팜비치의 자택인 마러라고 리조트를 방문한 베냐민 네타냐후 이스라엘 총리를 맞이한 자리에서 취재진에 "(베네수엘라의) 마약을 배에 적재하는 부두 지역에서 큰 폭발이 있었다"고 말했다.
이어 "우리는 (미국으로 마약 운반을 시도하는) 모든 보트들을 타격했고,지금 그 지역을 타격했다"며 "그곳은 그들이 (마약 적재를) 실행하는 곳이며,더는 존재하지 않는다"고 덧붙였다.
지난 9월께부터 카리브해와 동태평양에서 잇달아 마약 운반선으로 의심되는 선박들을 격침한 데 이어,문제 선박들의 근거지를 타격했다는 취지로 읽힌다.
앞서 트럼프 대통령은 지난 26일 녹화해 전날 공개된 한 라디오 인터뷰에서 "선박들이 출발하는 큰 시설을 이틀 전에 제거했다"고 말한 바 있는데,이날 재차 거론한 것으로 보인다.
결국 베네수엘라의 지상 시설물에 대한 군사작전을 감행했음을 재확인한 것이다.
트럼프 대통령은 이번 작전 수행 주체가 미군인지,아니면 중앙정보국(CIA) 같은 다른 기관인지를 묻자 "누가 했는지 정확히 알고 있지만,노트북 익스프레스 슬롯말하고 싶지 않다"면서 "하지만,해안가를 따라 진행됐다"라고만 말했다.
