9일 홍콩 사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP)는 이날 차오 얏밍 홍콩 경찰청장의 발표를 인용해 "수습된 시신 가운데 새 유전자(DNA)가 추가로 확인되어 사망자 수가 기존 159명에서 160명으로 늘어났다"고 전했다.
차오 청장은 "160명의 사망자 중 120명의 신원이 확인됐으며,단 도박나머지 40명에 대해서는 현재 DNA 검증 작업이 진행 중"이라고 밝혔다.
실종자 수는 당초 31명에서 6명으로 줄었다.이는 실종 신고 접수자 중 일부의 소재가 확인됐기 때문이다.
화재는 지난달 26일 오후 2시 51분께 타이포 구역 '웡 푹 코트' 아파트 단지에서 발생했다.당시 총 8개 동 중 7개 동으로 불길이 확산됐고,건조한 날씨와 강풍 탓에 진화에는 약 40시간이 소요됐다.
이번 사고는 1997년 홍콩 반환 이후 최악의 화재 참사로 기록됐으며,단 도박1948년 창고 화재로 176명이 숨진 이래 77년 만에 가장 큰 규모의 인명피해다.
