(서울=연합뉴스) 이미령 기자 = 군사우편을 통해 평택 미군기지로 13만명이 투약할 수 있는 대량의 필로폰을 들인 미군 군무원에게 징역형이 확정됐다.
12일 법조계에 따르면 대법원 2부(주심 권영준 대법관)는 마약류관리법 위반(마약·향정) 혐의로 재판에 넘겨진 미국인 A씨에게 징역 6년을 선고한 원심판결을 최근 확정했다.
A씨는 2021년 8월 미국에 있는 지인과 공모해 미 군사우편으로 필로폰 6.8㎏을 평택 미군기지를 통해 국내에 들인 혐의로 재판에 넘겨졌다.약 13만회(1회 0.05ｇ 기준) 투약분에 해당한다.
A씨는 같은 해 12월 코카인을 소지하고 흡입한 혐의도 받았다.
그는 재판에서 "미 군사우편 주소를 빌려달라는 부탁을 받고 들어줬을 뿐 택배 상자에 분유와 아기용품이 들어있는 것으로 알았다"며 혐의를 부인했으나 받아들여지지 않았다.
1심은 "피고인은 국내로 필로폰을 들여올 미 군사우편 주소를 제공하고 수령한 필로폰을 다른 전달책에게 전달해 범행에 기여한 정도가 가볍다고 할 수 없고,바카라 마틴표만약 해당 필로폰이 국내에 유통됐다면 이로 인해 발생할 사회적 해악의 정도가 매우 컸을 것으로 보인다"며 징역 6년의 실형을 선고했다.
그가 판결에 불복했으나 2심과 대법원도 이런 판단에 잘못이 없다고 보고 상소를 기각했다.
