'양키시장'으로 불렸던 인천 송현자유시장이 61년 만에 철거된다.동인천역 일대 도시개발사업 추진에 따른 조치다.인천시는 총 4351억원을 들여 오는 2029년까지 동인천역 주변 9만3900㎡를 주거·업무·상업·행정 기능이 결합한 입체복합도시로 재정비할 계획이다.
송현자유시장은 1950년대 6·25전쟁 피란민들이 부평 미군기지(캠프마켓) 등지서 흘러나온 군복·통조림 등을 판매하면서 '양키시장'이라는 별칭을 얻었다.1970년대에는 인천 최대 상권으로 자리매김해 '없는 것 빼고 다 있는 곳'으로 불렸지만,회원가입 프로모션 카지노주변 개발과 대형마트의 등장으로 점차 활기를 잃었다.지금은 인천 중·노년층에게 '추억의 장소'로 남아 있다.지난 12월 10일 낮 12시께 찾은 동인천역 인근 송현자유시장은 상인들이 떠난 뒤 간판만 덩그러니 남아 있었다.골목에는 철거를 준비하는 인부들이 분주히 돌아다녔다.인천시는 내년 상반기까지 시장 내 모든 건물을 철거할 계획이다.
